At Edward Byrne, we offer checkups or dental examinations. Our main aim is to assess your oral health to see if you need any treatment, with the added benefit of catching up with our loyal patients.
It is essential to have regular checkups to keep your mouth healthy and make sure any issues are dealt with as soon as possible – or prevent them altogether.
What we will do at your dental checkup:
- A thorough examination of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue.
- We will conduct an oral cancer screening at every checkup appointment and feel around your neck and jaw to ensure everything is healthy.
- We will ask you questions about any problems or pain you’ve had since your last checkup.
- We will advise you on things you can do to improve your oral health, such as recommendations on your diet, how to brush, oral hygiene, etc.
Your dentist may also need to take x-rays of your mouth every six months to 2 years to check for hidden problems, such as decay and bone loss due to gum disease.
If you have a build-up of plaque, stain, or calculus (old term tartar), you may be referred to a qualified hygienist to perform a scale and polish, which can be pre-booked straight after your visit with the dentist. Just ask the receptionist to book these appointments for the same day.
Following the NICE recall guidelines, your dentist will assess your risk and ask you to come back for your next checkup To maintain your dental health. If treatment is needed, you will have a detailed conversation and discuss your treatment options. You will always get a treatment plan and quote to take home. We always ask our patients to take their time to think about the possibilities and book when they are ready. You can always call and ask your dentist if you have any more questions.
