Soft Bite Splint Appliance :

It is limited however in what it can achieve. It is effective at protecting teeth against the wear of clenching or grinding habits . These habits put considerable strain on the jaw joint (T.M.J.) and it's cartilage. A soft bite splint will ease this pressure by lowering the jaw by a couple of mm's.

Some people report that they like biting into a soft bite splint and actually clench more ! The soft bite splint cannot be used to correct the position of the jaw where this has become deviated due to malpositioned or missing teeth.

Where teeth are very sensitive, the soft bite splint can be used as a carrier for substances such as Tooth Moouse which is extremely effective at strengthening the enamel and reducing sensitivity. The Soft bite splint can be made to fit either the upper or the lower teeth.

We construct our soft bite splints from a special vinyl acetate specifically made for this purpose in the U.S.A.
Unlike standard vinyl materials which are uniform in consistency, this laminated material has a softer internal surface with a harder more wear resistant outer surface.
