Gingivitis |
|
Gingivitis simply means : inflamed gums. Your gums become red, puffy & swollen, and they bleed easily. Because they are softer than they should be, they will recede more rapidly. Gingivitis is one of the most common diseases in the world. Photograph © E.Byrne BDS DGDP (UK) |
What causes Gingivitis ? Gingivitis is caused by dental plaque irritating the gum. If your brushing and flossing is not quite good enough you may miss areas and then find the gum bleeding. Photograph © E.Byrne BDS DGDP (UK) |

With correct management, gingivitis is completely reversible in the early stages. However, left untreated, it can slowly progress. Gums will recede and the bone supporting the teeth can be affected. Eventually, teeth can become loose. Photograph © E.Byrne BDS DGDP (UK) |
